① 비판과 비난, 불평을 삼가라.
Don't criticize, condemn, or complain.
② 칭찬하라, 정직하고 진지하게 칭찬하라.
Give honest and sincere appreciation.
③ 상대방의 마음에 열정을 불러일으켜라.
Arouse in the other person an eager want.
④ 진정으로 상대방에 대한 관심을 가져라.
Become genuinely interested in other people.
⑤ 미소 지어라.
Smile.
⑥ 이 세상에서 자신의 이름처럼 아름답고 중요하게 들리는
언어는 없다는 사실을 기억하라.

⑦ 경청하라. 상대방이 자신의 이야기를 꺼내게 하라.
Be a good listener. Encourage others to talk about themselves.
⑧ 상대방의 관심사에 대해 말하라.
Talk in terms of the other person's interests.
⑨ 상대방이 나에게 진실로 중요한 인물임을 느끼게 하라.
Make the other person feel import!ant - and do it sincerely.

(Nine Principles to Change People's Attitudes and Behavior!s)
① 칭찬과 감사의 말로 시작하라.
Begin with praise and honest appreciation.
② 간접적으로 상대방이 자신의 실수를 알아차리게 하라.
Call attention to people's mistakes indirectly.
③ 상대방을 비판하기에 앞서 나 자신의 실수를 이야기하라.
Talk about your own mistakes before criticizing the other person.
④ 명령하는 대신에 질문하라.
Ask questions instead of giving direct orders.
⑤ 상대방의 체면을 세워주어라.
Let the other person save face.
⑥ 조금이라도 나아지면 반드시 칭찬하라.
진심으로 인정해주고 아낌없이 칭찬하라.
Praise the slightest improvement and praise every improvement.
Be hearty in your approbation and lavish in your praise.
⑦ 상대방이 좋은 평판을 얻게 하라.
Give the other person a fine reputation to live up to.
⑧ 격려하라. 약점을 쉽게 극복할 수 있다고 격려하라.
Use encouragement. Make the fault seem easy to correct.
⑨ 나의 혜택보다는 상대방이 얻게 될 혜택을 생각하라.
Forget about the benefits to yourself and concentrate on the benefits to the other person.
